Wildcats Complete Sweep of Towson with Two Saturday Wins

DAVIDSON, N.C. — A full day of Saturday baseball resulted in two wins and a series sweep for the Davidson Wildcats.
 
With rain in the forecast for Sunday, Davidson and Towson played a twin bill at Wilson Field, and the Wildcats closed the series with 15-3 and 4-1 wins to follow Friday's 13-5 win.
 
The Wildcats (3-0) had offense, defense and pitching all weekend.
 
Senior starting pitchers Allen Barry and Josh Hudson gave the Wildcats quality outings Saturday.
 
In Saturday's first game, Barry threw six innings and allowed just two hits and struck out six.
 
"Allen was really good today," said coach Rucker Taylor. "He controlled things from the first pitch and was very efficient."
 
Hudson followed in the night cap by throwing six innings, allowing five hits and striking out five.
 
"That's the best I've seen Hudson throw since 2017," said Taylor. "I thought he was really good. He threw three pitches for strikes. I'm really encouraged by what he did."
 
Gabe Levy sailed through the final three innings in the series finale to earn his first save.
 
Offensively, the Wildcats put up big numbers. Brett Centracchio had three hits in each game. Ruben Fontes went 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run in the 15-3 win, and freshman Trevor Candelaria hit a grand slam to left in the sixth inning to make it 13-0.
 
Defensively, Taylor praised a few Candelaria catches and was proud of a scoop at first base by Walker Imwalle.
 
Up Next
Davidson is scheduled to host Duke Tuesday night at Wilson Field.
