
Stanley, Shepherd Lead 'Cats at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Davidson's Shelby Stanley and Sarah Helen Shepherd made a school record fall Friday to highlight the first day of action at the three-day Bucknell Invitational.
The breakthrough came in the women's 200 individual medley, as Stanley, a freshman, and Shepherd, a junior, finished 1-2. Each surpassed Shepherd's school-record time of 2:01.62. Shepherd improved to 2:01.50, while Stanley set the new mark at 2:00.43.
Also in the 200 IM, freshman Abby Francis took sixth and climbed to third on the program's all-time performers list with a time of 2:03.50. Stanley, Shepherd and Francis accounted for 84 team points in the event.
Julia Goodhead, Shepherd, Olivia Stanley and Francis swam to second in the 400 medley relay (3:45.09).
Sophomore Siena Senn placed fifth in the 500 free and, already second among all-time Wildcats in the event, posted a personal-best 4:55.15.
Francis, Goodhead, Shelby Stanley and Marissa Lassell placed third in the 200 free relay (1:34.28), while Anna Linzell, Olivia Stanley, Alexis LeMone and Shepherd took sixth (1:35.44).
The Wildcats had four women reach the B finals of the 50 free, led by Lassell, who swam to 10th (24.07), and Hope Carpenter, Helen Duffy, Isabella McElrath and Senn took eighth in the 400 medley relay (3:52.04). The Davidson women are in third entering Saturday's action.
Junior Daniel Valmassei finished second in one-meter diving, and Brian Hynes and Walter Dauksher placed fourth and fifth in the 500 free to lead the Davidson men, who are fourth after one day of competition.
Valmassei totaled 300.80 points as one of two male divers (out of 11) to eclipse the 300-point mark Friday.
Hynes and Dauksher touched the wall in 4:33.10 and 4:34.75, respectively.
Kilian Quinn swam to fifth in the 50 free (20.69) after posting a preliminary time of 20.59, which put him fifth on Davidson's all-time list.
Diver Drew Sheldon placed eighth (189.10) in the one-meter, and Crossan Cooper led four Wildcat men into the 200 IM B finals and placed 10th (1:54.19).
Corkery, Will Tabor, Alex Strasser and Dauksher placed sixth in the 400 medley relay (3:23.25). Dauksher, Strasser, Ian Hentenaar and Quinn took sixth in the 200 free relay (1:23.70), while Ty McLaren, Jacob Jung, Patrick Kelly and Hynes placed eighth (1:24.99).
