THE SERIES
Davidson will be in unfamiliar territory this weekend, having only played Hartford twice and has never faced Butler or Bucknell before. The Wildcats and the Hawks last met in 1990, and Davidson holds a 2-0 advantage.
THE DAVIDSON RUNDOWN
The 'Cats are coming off their first road game of the season, where they fell 13-5 against ACC foe Wake Forest. Sophomore Eric Jones became the second 'Cat to hit multiple homers in one game, as he jacked one to each side of the outfield during the contest. Jones now has three on the season, already surpassing his total from his rookie campaign.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Senior Brian Fortier was named a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball on Monday, after belting four long balls- including two three-run shots in one game-, scoring six times, and collecting nine RBI as he registered a stellar 1.167 slugging percentage during the 'Cats four games last week.
SCOUTING THE BISON
Bucknell arrives in North Carolina with a 2-4 record, most recently taking the final game of a three-game stint with VMI, shutting the Keydets out 4-0. Senior Danny Rafferty leads the team with a .368 average and seven hits, and is tied for a team-best five RBI. Freshman JohnPaul Bell looks to be on a hot streak, posting a .500 clip in his three games.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
Hartford comes into the weekend winless, having been swept by Mercer last weekend. Junior catcher Erik Ostberg carries a team-best .455 batting average, while sophomore Ashton Bardzell leads with two home runs, hitting both during the Hawks' 20-14 loss to the Bears. Bardzell also has a team-best seven hits.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Butler will enter Wilson Field with the same ledger as the 'Cats at 5-3. They defeated Atlantic 10 foe La Salle in both contests, but are coming off a 5-1 loss to Alcorn State. Senior Michael Hartnagel tops the team, carrying a near .500 batting average (.450) and a squad-best nine hits. He also leads the team with six runs. The Bulldog pitching staff boasts a strong 2.29 ERA, having allowed just 16 runs on the year and limiting opponents to a .167 clip.
