WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Davidson baseball suffered a 13-5 loss Tuesday to Wake Forest at Gene Hooks Field. The 'Cats drop to 5-3 on the season, while Wake moves above .500 at 5-4.
Sophomore Eric Jones led the offense, belting two home runs, a career first, and has now already surpassed his season total from his rookie campaign. Senior Will Robertson doubled, while classmate Brian Fortier, junior Alec Acosta, and sophomore Justin Lebek all singled into the outfield.
Wake took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning before the 'Cats cut the deficit to one after Fortier reached on a passed ball, moved to second on Acosta's single, and both came home on Lebek's fielder's choice.
Wake then added insurance in the bottom of that frame with a run, then scoring three times in the third and six in the fourth.
Jones hit his first long ball, a solo shot, in the fifth. He connected for his second in the seventh, this time a two-run blast that brought in Lebek.
The Demon Deacons scored double-digit runs for the fourth time in the last five games.
The Wildcats return to Wilson Field Friday, welcoming Bucknell, Butler, and Hartford for another round-robin style tournament.
