BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Peyton Aldridge scored a game-high 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting to lead sixth-seeded Davidson to a 78-63 victory over La Salle, Thursday evening in the second round of the 2016 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Tournament at the Barclays Center.
The Wildcats will play third-seeded St. Bonaventure in Friday's quarterfinals at 9 p.m. on NBC Sports Network.
Brian Sullivan added 15 points, while Nathan Ekwu recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats, who finished 20-of-24 at the free-throw line.
In addition to a 41-37 edge on the glass, Davidson (19-11) held the Explorers to just 35 percent shooting, including a 7-of-24 effort from long range.
The 'Cats shot 43.1 percent from the floor and made 8-of-20 3-pointers.
Despite a lengthy scoring drought to begin the second half, the Wildcats used a 15-3 run midway through the period to go up, 64-44, and put the game out of reach. The margin would grow to as many as 21 on several occasions with under 5 minutes to play.
Like the Wildcats, La Salle (9-22) placed three in double figures, led by Jordan Price's 23. Tony Washington had 16 points to go along with 13 boards, while Amar Stukes scored 12 points.
Davidson, which got 17 points from Aldridge in the opening 20 minutes, closed the half on a 14-4 spurt to take a 42-30 advantage into the break.
