DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson baseball team ran by the Yale Bulldogs, 23-2, on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field in the final game of the four-team Davidson Tournament.
After scoring a run in the first, Davidson (7-4) scored seven runs in the bottom of the second to start the day hot. The Wildcats went on to score in four of the next six at bats, including five runs in both the sixth and eighth innings.
3B Ben Arkin led Davidson, going 4-for-5, including a two-RBI homerun over the left field fence in the third inning. Arkin finished the day with five RBI, five runs and an assist. Two other Wildcats recorded a three-or-more hit performance, including RF Lee Miller (3-4, 4 RBI) and LF Ty Middlebrooks (3-4, 2 runs).
Twenty-two Wildcats saw action in the win, including five pitchers. On the mound, RHP Nick Neitzel got the victory for Davidson, as he improved to 1-1 on the season by pitching 5.0 innings and recording four strike outs and only allowing one run.
RHP Chase Ford recorded the loss for the Bulldogs. Ford saw 2.0 innings, allowing 10 runs off 11 hits off 19 batters.
Throughout the entire game, no errors were charted as the Wildcats notched 23 runs off 24 hits, while Yale recorded two runs off seven hits. The Bulldogs left nine on base, compared to Davidson's eight.
The Wildcats will be back in action when they return to Wilson Field to host Akron in a three-game series starting Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m.
