Davidson Splits On Saturday, Takes One Away From PC

DAVIDSON, N.C.
– The Davidson baseball team completed day two of the four-team Davidson Tournament with a 5-4 victory over the Presbyterian Blue Hose thanks to sophomore PH Tyler Agard's walk off single to left field Saturday night.
 
Prior to the win, the Wildcats (6-4) fell to the Yale Bulldogs, 22-3.

In their first game of the day, the Wildcats found themselves in a tough spot in the sixth inning. Yale (1-1) pulled away with 14 runs off 10 hits and three Davidson errors that made it a 16-1 ball game, which eventually secured the contest. 
 
Davidson scored a run in the sixth and ninth innings, but it wasn't enough.
 
Overall, Yale finished the day with 23 hits to the Wildcats' eight and three errors. Senior 3B Ben Arkin led Davidson with two hits and one run with four at bats, while Yale had seven Bulldogs with two-or-more hits.   
 
Sophomore RHP Clark Beeker got the start and pitched 5.1 innings to fall to 1-1 on the season. RHP Chris Moates recorded his first win on the year for the Bulldogs.  
 
Yale kicked off day two with a 30-2 loss to the Richmond Spiders in its first contest of the 2015 season, prior to facing the Wildcats.
 
Game 2 Recap – Davidson 5, Presbyterian 4
 
Davidson and the Blue Hoses (11-4) capped off the day with the Wildcats battling for a 5-4 victory.
 
Tied 4-4 heading into the ninth, Presbyterian reached on an error to threaten the Davidson defense at the first at bat. But the Wildcats held strong as they recorded a ground out and two-straight fly outs throughout the next three at bats to go into the bottom of the final inning still tied at four. 
 
With the bases loaded and one out, Agard was called to the plate to pinch hit for sophomore C Jake Sidwell. Agard singled to left field on the second pitch to clinch the win for the Wildcats.
 
Davidson recorded 13 hits off six Blue Hose pitchers and was led by junior 2B Sam Foy and freshman SS Alec Acosta with three hits and one run each. Acosta also tallied two RBI.
 
Senior RHP Matt Saeta (3-0) recorded the win as he pitched the final 2.2 innings, facing 10 batters and keeping PC to just four runs. Senior LHP Rob Bain started the first 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, while striking out five.
 
The Wildcats will be back in action Sunday, March 8 when they close the Davidson Tournament against Yale at 3:30 p.m. Richmond and Presbyterian will play at 12 p.m.
