SAVANNAH, Ga. – In addition to forcing extra innings with three runs in the ninth, Davidson scored two more in the top of the 11th and held on for a 5-4 victory over Michigan in non-conference baseball action Saturday at Grayson Stadium.
Trailing 3-0 entering the top of the ninth, the Wildcats' Will Robertson and Alec Acosta led off the inning with a hit by pitch and walk, before scoring on a wild pitch and passed ball, respectively. David Daniels later tied the game with a one-out RBI single that plated Ty Middlebrooks, who reached on a pinch-hit single.
After a scoreless 10th, Davidson's Lee Miller drove in Tyler Agard and Middlebrooks with the go ahead and eventual game-winning runs on a bases loaded fielder's choice.
Despite a no decision, Clark Beeker was impressive on the mound today for the Wildcats, tossing seven innings of four-hit, one-run baseball, while striking out five and walking just one.
Matt Saeta (2-0) picked up his second win in relief tossing two scoreless innings and Cody White recorded his second career save.
Daniels led Davidson's 10-hit attack with a 4-for-6 performance at the plate. Ben Arkin and Acosta also finished with multiple hits for the Wildcats, who were originally scheduled to play at home this weekend before weather altered the schedule.
Michigan (2-3), which grabbed an early 1-0 lead on a Carmen Benedetti double in the opening inning, scored two more runs in eighth on the designated hitter's base knock.
The Wolverines pushed across their final run in the bottom of the 11th before White worked out of a bases loaded jam to end the game.
Davidson (2-1) and Michigan will meet again tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. before the Wildcats conclude their three-game weekend against Tennessee Tech at 12:30 p.m.
