SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After helping Davidson to an 8-0 month, Jake Cohen has been named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Month for February, as announced by the league office Monday morning.
A senior from Berwyn, Pa., Cohen averaged 18.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 2.2 assists per game, while shooting 53.5 percent (53-99) from the floor and going 35-for-42 (83.3 percent) from the free throw line.
The 6-10 forward reached double figures in every contest, hitting the 20-point plateau three times including a career-high 32 in a win over College of Charleston (2/14). In addition to double-doubles in victories over Western Carolina (2/7) and Furman (2/20), Cohen had 28 points, 25 of which came in the first half, in the Wildcats' thrilling 93-87 BracketBusters triumph over Montana (2/23).
Cohen, Davidson's all-time leader in blocks and starts, is currently ranked sixth in school history with 1,734 career points and ninth in rebounds with 735.
This marks the second time in his career Cohen has received Player of the Month recognition.
Winners of 14 straight, top-seeded Davidson will play the victor of No. 8 Wofford / No. 9 Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Southern Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Saturday at 12 p.m. in Asheville, N.C. at the U.S. Cellular Center.
