Box Score
ELON, N.C. – Elon scored four runs in the first inning and LHP Dylan Clark kept the Davidson bats in check, propelling the Phoenix to a 6-1 victory over the Wildcats in Southern Conference baseball action Friday evening at Latham Park.
Davidson (8-16, 4-9 SoCon) third baseman David Daniels extended his reached base streak to 16 games with a single in the eighth inning and eventually scored on an error for the Wildcats' lone run. Left fielder Forrest Brandt led the 'Cats at the plate, going 2-for-4.
Clark (3-2) only yielded the unearned run, seven hits and a walk while striking out three for Elon (15-11, 8-5 SoCon). The Phoenix got on the scoreboard early as cleanup hitter and first baseman Ryan Kinsella (1-for-3) cleared the bases in the first inning with a double to centerfield for a 3-0 lead, and he later scored on a single by second baseman Wil Leathers (1-for-4). Catcher Alex Swim, left fielder Blaine Bower and designated hitter Casey Jones each enjoyed multi-hit games, as Swim went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Bower went 2-for-3 and Jones went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
Kinsella's double was the only extra base hit of the game for either team. An RBI-single by shortstop Antonio Alvarez in the second inning and the same by Swim in the seventh capped the scoring for Elon.
RHP Ryan Lowe (2-4) settled in for Davidson after allowing the early scoring, facing just one more batter than the minimum from the third through sixth innings. He left the game after 6 2/3 innings yielding the six runs on 12 hits and three walks while striking out three.
Davidson, in the midst of eight-straight games on the road, will conclude the series at Elon with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. RHP Danny Mooney will take the mound for the Wildcats (3-2, 3.50 ERA) and face RHP Kyle Webb (2-0, 3.35 ERA) in the first game, while the 'Cats' night-cap starter is still to be determined. LHP Spencer Medick (3-1, 1.91) will get the nod for the Phoenix.
