DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's basketball team put three scorers in double figures, including Nik Cochran's team-best 13 points with his last three points breaking up a 59-all tie late in the second half to give the Wildcats a 65-61 exhibition win over visiting Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday afternoon in Belk Arena.

Cochran finished 4-of-7 from the field, hitting three of the 'Cats five three-pointers for the game, while adding three assists and a pair of rebounds. Joining Cochran in double figures was Clint Mann and Jake Cohen with 11 points each.

L-R was led by D.J. Blackmon's game-high 18 points and seven rebounds. Jon Hathcock (13) and Jeff Thomas (12) also clipped the double-digit mark for the Bears.

Tied at 59-all, the 11th tie of the game, with 4:01 left, Davidson grabbed the lead for good out of the last media timeout. Coming out of the break, Cochran drained a three-ball near the top of the key to give the Wildcats a 62-59 advantage.

Shortly after Cohen blocked a Blackmon shot on the Bears possession, Mann hit a layup for a 64-59 lead with 2:57 left and the Bears were forced to call a timeout.

Jeff Thomas of L-R hit a turn-around jumper in the lane to bring the score to 64-61 with 1:44 left in the game, but Davidson's defense stepped up, forcing a missed three-pointer with 10 seconds left and Cohen hit one-of-two free throws to seal the win.

Davidson had grabbed an early 10-point lead (23-13) on a layup from JP Kuhlman with 10:03 on the clock in the first half, but saw the Bears chip away and tie things up at 24-24 when Blackmon swished home a pair of free throws.

The score would be tied two more times, before Ben Allison hit a two buckets with under a minute to go at the end of the first half to give Davidson a 35-31 lead heading into the locker room.

The Wildcats gear up for their season-opener when they head to play at Penn Nov. 13. That contest is set for a 7 p.m. tip-off in historical The Palestra in Philadelphia.
