DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson junior guard Stephen Curry has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for his performance in two Wildcat conference wins last week, the league announced today.
It is the sixth time this season he has won the award, which is voted on by the conference's sports information directors, and the most times a player has earned the honor in a season since the award was created in 1968. Curry has now earned the accolade 14 times in his career.
He helped the Wildcats earn South Division wins over Furman (83-43) and Wofford (79-56) last week by averaging 31.5 points, 6.0 assists and connecting on 63 percent of his field goal attempts, including 13-of-22 from long distance.
Curry scored a game-high 30 points versus Furman and tallied 33 against Wofford, marking the 25th time in his career he has scored at least 30 points. He has scored at least 30 points 10 times this season, one shy of the Davidson record he set in 2007-08. He leads the nation with 29.3 points per game and leads the SoCon in assists (6.4 apg) and steals (2.9 spg). He is the only player in Division I to be ranked in the top-10 nationally in all three categories.
The Wildcats, who are 16-3 overall and 9-0 in the SoCon, are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Chattanooga to take on the Mocs in McKenzie Arena at 7 p.m.
