STATESBORO, Ga. – Stephen Curry led four Davidson players in double figures with 28 points as the Wildcats posted an 89-68 Southern Conference victory over Georgia Southern before a capacity crowd at Hanner Field House Saturday afternoon. It was Davidson's 37th consecutive regular-season league victory.
Andrew Lovedale collected 16 points and 15 rebounds for Davidson (14-3, 7-0 SoCon), and Will Archambault had 14 points and six boards. Bryant Barr scored 11 points, and Dan Nelms had seven points and five rebounds off the bench.
Ben Drayton led Georgia Southern (5-9, 3-3 SoCon) with 16 points, and Antonio Hanson scored 14 points. Julian Allen collected 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Controlling the boards turned out to be the key for the Wildcats as they outrebounded the Eagles 52-34, including 18-8 on the offensive end. That turned into a 20-8 edge in second-chance points.
Davidson used an 8-0 run, keyed by a pair of Archambault 3-pointers, to go up 17-7 early in the contest. Leading 27-17, the 'Cats used a 14-2 spurt to push the margin to 22 points with 4:07 left in the half. The margin grew to as many as 28 in the second frame on a Nelms' jumper with 8:02 remaining.
The Wildcats return home for a pair of SoCon games next week, beginning with a 7 p.m. contest against Furman Wednesday, Jan. 21.
NOTES: It was the fifth-largest attendance at Hanner Field House… Nelms' seven points was a career high… It was Lovedale's fifth double-double this season and the seventh of his career…Davidson has not trailed since being down by one point at the 17:50 mark of the game against The Citadel, an active stretch of 157 minutes, 50 seconds of action.
