
Rhode Island Tops Wildcats in A-10 Play

DAVIDSON — Rhode Island went on an 18-2 first-half run and never looked back in a 70-45 Atlantic 10 win over Davidson Saturday afternoon in Belk Arena.
With the loss, the Wildcats fell to 10-6 overall and 2-2 in the A-10, while Rhode Island (10-7) improved to 1-3 in league play.
Davidson shot a season-low 34.9 percent from the floor (15-of-43) and also had a season-low 3-of-17 day from 3-point range (17.6 percent).
Josh Scovens was the lone Wildcat in double figures, scoring 10 points, while Ian Platteeuw and Parker Friedrichsen added eight points apiece.
Five Rams scored in double figures, led by Keeyan Itejere's 18 points.
The game was tight early, and the Wildcats trailed 21-19 after completing a 7-0 run with 9:13 left in the first 20 minutes. But the Rams, who hit their first seven shots and shot 71 percent in the first half, took control with their decisive run, while the Wildcats missed five shots and turned the ball over five times in that span.
The Rams' lead reached 30 points twice, including at 62-32 after a 14-0 spurt.
