ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Davidson's Sophia Whiddon found the back of the net in a 1-0 non-conference road victory over UNC Asheville Sunday afternoon.

Whiddon's 78th minute goal sealed the game for the Wildcats, who are 5-1 against the Bulldogs since 2011. Davidson closes out their non-conference slate with the win, bringing their record to 4-2-1.

Both teams had plenty of chances to take the lead through the first 77 minutes of play with Davidson putting up seven shots and UNC Asheville putting up five in the first half. Grace Stair stood tall in net for the Wildcats for the full 90 minute, stopping all three of the Bulldogs shots on target.

Whiddon put the game on ice when the 'Cats were granted a free kick a yard outside of the Asheville penalty box. She buried the free kick and the Davidson defense held up for the remaining 12 minute of regulation.

Whiddon lead the 'Cats offensively this season, ranking first on the team in goals (3), points (8) and shots (18). With her goal today, she matched her scoring total from last season with three goal in this year's campaign.
