Wildcats Top Winthrop 12-9 at Wilson

With the win, the Wildcats evened the non-conference season series with the Eagles and improved to 17-22, while Winthrop fell to 22-21.
The Wildcats trailed 5-4 entering the seventh, and Putnam led off with a solo home run, his 13th of the season, to tie it. Davidson continued to push runs across with the help of four walks and two hit-by-pitches and capped the inning with a Cider Canon RBI-single that made it 12-5.
Canon scored the Wildcats' first run in the fourth following a Michael O'Shaughnessy double and a throwing error. Anthony Torreso then went deep with a two-run shot to left-center to make it 3-1. Torreso drove in Putnam with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, extending the lead to 4-1.
Canon finished with three hits, while Putnam was the only other Wildcat with two.
O'Shaughnessy extended his hitting streak to 22 games, while he and Torreso extended their reached-base streaks to 22 and 20 games, respectively.
Winthrop got within three runs in the top of the eighth by scoring four runs off one hit, five walks and a hit batsman.
Simon Yochum, Davidson's sixth pitcher of the night, recorded the final five outs to seal it.
Starter Adam Katz (1.0 IP) and Matt Hamilton (2.0 IP) also had scoreless outings.
