Saint Mary’s Holds Off Wildcats in Back-and-Forth Tilt

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In a game that featured 20 ties and eight lead changes, Saint Mary's took control late to get past Davidson, 70-61, in non-conference men's basketball action Sunday afternoon inside John M. Belk Arena.
The Wildcats, who shot just 39.7 percent, fall to 7-2 on the season.
Tied 51-51 with 7:24 to play, the Gaels scored seven straight points as part of an 11-2 spurt to go in front for good.
In addition to a commanding 47-29 edge on the glass, 17 on the offensive end, Saint Mary's (9-1) shot 53.3 percent after intermission to finish the game 45.9 percent.
Sam Brown and Roberts Blums were the lone Wildcats in double figures with 16 and 11, respectively.
In a back and forth opening 20 minutes where both teams struggled from the floor, the Gaels carried a 27-24 lead into the break.
Joshua Dent led the way for Saint Mary's with 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting, while Andrew McKeever added 15 points and 13 rebounds.
