Wildcats Win 16-5, Even Series with Morehead

DAVIDSON — Michael O'Shaughnessy, Jake Wilhoit and Eli Putnam combined to drive in 10 runs, and Cooper Cavanaugh struck out nine in his college debut as the Davidson baseball team defeated Morehead State 16-5 Saturday at Wilson Field.
It's the first win of the year for the Wildcats (1-1).
Davidson broke a 3-3 tie with four runs in the sixth via two-RBI doubles from O'Shaughnessy and Putnam. The Wildcats then added three runs in the seventh off a Wilhoit two-RBI single and a Putnam RBI-hit. They put the game away with six runs in the eighth thanks to four walks, two hit-batsmen and an Aidan Rice two-RBI single.
O'Shaughnessy finished with a game-high four RBIs, while Wilhoit was 4-for-4. Nick Calero had three hits, including two doubles.
On the mound, Cavanaugh set the tone early. He tossed 4.2 innings and struck out two batters in the first, second, third and fifth before handing the ball off to the bullpen.
Isaac Fix threw 3.2 innings and struck out five, before Will Banks recorded the final out, also on a strikeout.
