DAVIDSON – Keyshawn Hall scored a game-high 25 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers down the stretch to lead George Mason past Davidson 57-55 in Atlantic 10 men's basketball action Saturday afternoon inside Belk Arena.
Despite the setback, Reed Bailey scored 22 points to lead the Wildcats, who shot just 34.6 percent from the floor. Connor Kochera and Bobby Durkin also reached double figures for Davidson (13-10, 3-7 A-10) with 12 and 11, respectively.
In a game that featured eight ties and nine lead changes, the Patriots used a 9-0 spurt midway through the second half to go in front for good.
After a Hall jumper gave George Mason (16-8, 5-6 A-10) its largest lead at 48-40, the Wildcats slowly clawed their way back and cut the deficit to 56-55 on a Bailey 3-point play with 13 seconds left. On the next possession, Tre Wood hit just 1-of-2 free throws for the Patriots, giving Davidson a chance to tie or win it with five ticks remaining.
But the 'Cats were unable to get a clean look.
In addition to 26 bench points, the Patriots held a 38-28 advantage on the glass, including 12 offensive boards that led to 12 second-chance points. After getting two early fouls, Hall scored 22 of his points in the second half, including 14 straight.
Mason used an 8-3 run late in the opening period to retake the lead before going to the half up 26-25.
