Wildcats Drop Game, Series to NJIT

The Highlanders used a 10-run third inning, that included a Jared Donnelly grand slam, to take control.
Carico hit a two-run home run, his first of the year, in the first inning after Tyler Douglas led off with an infield single. That gave the Wildcats an early lead, but by the time Cotrone led off the fifth with his first career home run, NJIT was well on its way.
The Wildcats added a run in the sixth on a Jacob Hinderleider groundout, then scored in the seventh when Henry Koehler was hit with the bases loaded. In the eighth, Nick Calero singled in a run to make it 14-6.
Davidson utilized five pitchers, beginning with Ryan Kutz, who left with an injury after 1.1 innings. AJ Pabst and Ed Hall combined to hold the Highlanders scoreless in the final four innings. A freshman, Hall struck out five in his college debut, including the side in the eighth.
Cotrone led the way with three hits, while Douglas and Calero had two apiece.
Anthony Torreso earned his first college hit on a single through the left side in the fourth inning.
