FAIRFAX, Va. – Despite leading for three quarters of play on Saturday afternoon, the Davidson women's basketball team fell to the George Mason Patriots 62-58 in overtime.

The Wildcats led by as many as 10 points in the contest, and had a 43-36 lead heading into the final quarter of regulation.

George Mason held Davidson to just eight points in the fourth, while stringing together an 8-2 run to close the gap to one point, 45-44. After taking a 51-49 lead with 39 seconds remaining, Suzi-Rose Deegan sank a driving layup to settle the score and ultimately force overtime.

Deegan started off the extra period with a three-point play, but the Patriots scored nine straight and closed the door on the overtime win.

Overall, Davidson shot 39.6 percent from the field, despite starting off the game torching the nets at a 53.8 percent clip.

The Wildcats' hot shooting pushed them to a 17-9 lead after one, and the 'Cats stretched their lead to 10 in the final minute of the half with a three-pointer from Maddie Plank and another Deegan layup.

After leading 30-23 at the half, Davidson's lead was trimmed to three thanks to a 4-0 run from the Patriots. The Wildcats relied on a 7-0 run, capped off by a three-pointer from Sallie Schutz, to bump their lead back up to seven before George Mason began its fourth quarter comeback.

In all, Davidson and George Mason committed 19 turnovers each and the Patriots out-rebounded the 'Cats, 35-28.

Deegan and Elle Sutphin ended the contest with 16 points apiece, while Sutphin scored her sixth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Plank finished with 14, with a 4-of-6 effort from the field and 100 percent shooting from beyond the arc and at the free throw line.
