Wildcats Drop Series Opener to Rams

4/22/2022 9:57:00 PM | Baseball

DAVIDSON — Trevor Candelaria's two-run single in the fourth gave Davidson the lead Friday night, but Rhode Island responded in the next half-inning and controlled things from there in a 7-5 win over the Wildcats at Wilson Field.

The Wildcats (29-7, 8-2 Atlantic 10) had won their previous seven games and still lead the A-10 by one game.

Davidson fell behind 4-0 after the first two innings, but climbed back into it thanks to Jacob Hinderleider's two-run home run in the second. Ryan Wilson's RBI-single in the third cut it to 4-3 before Candelaria drove in Tyler Douglas and Jack Cotrone with his hit to left.

But the Rams, now 7-3 in the A-10, responded in the fifth with three runs, including homers by Addison Kopack and Anthony DePino.

The Wildcats had the bases loaded in both the sixth and seventh innings, but failed to score.

Ryan Kutz pitched the final 4.1 innings and struck out six, while not allowing a hit or run.
