Wildcats Drop Regular Season Finale at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – Despite a game-high 25 points from Foster Loyer in his first game back from injury, Davidson dropped its regular-season finale at Dayton, 82-76, Saturday inside UD Arena.
The Wildcats, who have clinched at least a share of the 2021-22 Atlantic 10 Regular Season title, fall to 25-5 overall and 15-3 in league play.
After missing the last four contests, Loyer led three 'Cats in double figures, going 7-of-13 from the floor, hitting five of his club's 11 3-pointers and finishing 6-of-7 at the line.
Hyunjung Lee added 17 points and Sam Mennenga scored 14 for Davidson.
After the Wildcats used an 8-0 run highlighted by Mennenga and Loyer triples to go back in front 62-59, Dayton responded with nine straight points of its own to grab the game's largest lead, 68-62.
Trailing 71-65, the Wildcats clawed back and eventually retook the lead, 76-75, on three more charity tosses from Loyer with 1:05 remaining. Dayton's Koby Brea answered with a trey the next trip down as the Flyers would go on to score the game's last six points.
Daron Holmes paced Dayton (22-9, 14-4) with 20 points, while Brea recorded 18 in 25 minutes off the bench.
In a game that featured 12 ties and 11 lead changes, the Flyers shot 66.7 percent after intermission to conclude the game at 54.9 percent overall and 11-of-19 from long range.
Neither team led by more than five in the opening period as Loyer connected on three free-throws with eight seconds remaining to give the 'Cats a 35-34 advantage at the half.
