Wildcats Drop Doubleheader to Colonials
4/23/2021 11:56:00 PM | Baseball
A return to Wilson Field didn't mean a return to win column for the Davidson Wildcats Friday night.
The Wildcats, previously 16-1 at home, dropped both games of an Atlantic 10 doubleheader with George Washington.
Game 1
The Colonials broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning and went on to a 4-2 win in the series opener.
Gabe Levy threw six innings in a no-decision, striking out five and allowing three hits and one run.
Ryan Wilson hit his fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning. The Wildcats added a run in the ninth when Henry Koehler reached on an error, allowing Trevor Candelaria to score.
Game 2
A one-run Davidson lead was short-lived in a 10-2 loss in the seven-inning nightcap.
Koehler's RBI-single drove in Wilson in the fourth inning to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead, but the Colonials responded with five runs on five consecutive two-out hits in the fifth. Ruben Fontes hit his ninth home run of the year to get a run back in the sixth, but the Colonials added five runs to their total in the seventh off three hits and three walks.
Up Next
With rain expected in the area all day Saturday, the series will continue Sunday with a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
