RICHMOND, Va. — Trevor Candelaria hit two home runs, and John Hosmer hit his team-leading ninth round-tripper, but Davidson lost both games of an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Saturday at VCU.
With the 9-8 and 5-1 losses, Davidson is now 19-13 and 3-4 in the A-10.
Game 1
A five-run fifth and a three-run eighth put Davidson in front Saturday afternoon, but VCU answered in the next half inning each time en route to the 9-8 win.
Ruben Fontes' RBI-single broke a 5-5 tie in the eighth, and Candelaria's two-run shot that followed gave the Wildcats a three-run lead. But the Rams rallied for four runs to get the win.
In the fifth, Alex Fedje-Johnson drove in two runs with a single up the middle, and Hosmer hit a three-run shot to left center.
Game 2
VCU scored three runs off one hit and four walks in the first inning and added two runs in the fifth to complete the day with a 5-1 victory.
Fedje-Johnson led off the game with a double, but it proved to be the Wildcats' only extra base hit of the game until Candelaria led off the seventh with a solo homer to center. It's his eighth home run of the season, which ties Fontes for second-best on the team.
