Five Davidson hitters drove in two runs apiece, and the Wildcats opened the 2021 baseball season with a 14-8 victory over Morehead State at Wilson Field Saturday night.
Alex Fedje-Johnson homered as part of a five-run third inning as the Wildcats built a 10-3 lead through three.
Fedje-Johnson, who along with Henry Koehler scored four runs, launched an 0-1 pitch onto the hill in left-center.
"That was a lot of fun," he said. "I was actually mad that I didn't swing at the first pitch. He came back with a curveball that caught a lot of the plate, and I was able to get a good swing on it."
Ryan Wilson's first college hit was a two-run triple to left-center earlier in the third, and he soon scored on a Koehler single. Ruben Fontes had an RBI-double in the second and an RBI-triple in the sixth and also walked three times as the Wildcats took 12 free passes.
Parker Nolan plated Davidson's first run of the night on a bases-loaded walk in the first and drove in another on an infield single in the sixth. After driving in a run on a groundout to second in the first, Michael Carico drove in another on his first Davidson hit, a fifth-inning single.
After starter Blake Hely threw four innings, and Nolan DeVos struck out five in 1.2, Gabe Levy wrapped it up quickly on the mound, earning a save in 3.1 innings of work.
