The Davidson Wildcats will have to settle for a series win, rather than a sweep, against the Saint Louis Billikens, who salvaged a 5-4 victory Sunday at Wilson Field.
Â
An RBI-single by Kevin Jordan in the eighth inning proved to be the difference for the Billikens, who were the preseason pick to win the regular-season Atlantic 10 title.
Â
Davidson (21-18, 10-5 A-10) rallied from a 4-0 deficit after two innings to tie the game on a Matt Frey solo home run to the left in the fifth.
Â
Ward Coleman drove in Zach Nussbaum on an RBI-single in the third and again on a groundout in the fifth. Frey added an RBI on a fielder's choice in the third.
Â
After the Billikens pulled ahead late, the Wildcats threatened in the ninth. Alex Mardiney (infield single) and Brett Centracchio (walk) reached base, but neither were able to advance past first.
Â
Alex Fenton turned in his best outing of the season on the mound, throwing 5.2 innings in relief, while allowing four hits and two earned runs and striking out four.
Â
Frey's reached base streak has now reached 34 games.
Â
Saint Louis improved to 18-24 overall and 6-8 in league play.
Â
Up Next
Davidson will host N.C. A&T in non-conference play at 6 p.m. Wednesday, then travel to UMass next weekend in A-10 play.
