PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Annalyse Kitzberger matched her career-high with 13 kills, and head coach Chris Willis saw an improved defensive performance Sunday as the Davidson volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 Atlantic 10 victory at Duquesne.
Â
The Wildcats improved to 4-4 in A-10 play and to 9-12 overall and completed the series sweep of the Dukes, who dropped a 3-1 match in their Sept. 27 visit to Belk Arena.
Â
Hattie Rodriguez added 11 kills for the 'Cats, who hit .283 as a team while holding Duquesne to .075.
Â
"The team made an intentional change with their defensive effort at the net and behind the block," said Willis. "They bought into the game plan and executed it well. Annalyse and Hattie were pretty dialed in today, and this win really helps our opportunity to get in the conference tournament."
Â
The Wildcats, who are pursuing a spot in the league's six-team postseason event, opened the match with a 25-14 win in the first set. The second set was the tightest of the day, but the Wildcats broke a 23-all tie and closed 25-23 with a Kitzberger kill — her sixth of the set, matching Rodriguez — and a Dukes' hitting error.
Â
Davidson overcame an early deficit in the third set, scored six points in a row and secured the match with a 25-18 win.
Â
Kitzberger hit .619 and matched the 13 kills she had against Fordham Oct. 11, while Ellie Crosley had eight kills at a .727 percentage. Elise Edman and Josie Treadwell had 19 and 10 digs, respectively, and setter Sydney Champaigne had 33 assists.
Â
Up Next
Davidson will play its next two at home, beginning with next Friday's 4:30 p.m. match against George Washington. Senior Day follows on Sunday's home finale against George Mason.
