Davidson Wins Fifth Straight Match, Beats Charlotte In Four Sets

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson won its fifth straight match with a four-set victory over Charlotte on Saturday night inside Belk Arena. The Wildcats wrap up non-conference play with a 7-4 record.
The 'Cats saved their best for last in the final set. Davidson recorded a .345 team hitting percentage in the frame and took down Charlotte 25-13. Ariyana Johnson registered six kills with a .455 hitting percentage and only one attack error. Johnson finished the match with a career-high 19 kills. Elena Garcia-Guerrios also posted six kills in the fourth set with a sizzling .364 hitting percentage. The senior had 17 kills and nine digs throughout the entire match.
Davidson led the entire first set and ultimately won 25-17. After the Wildcats dropped the second set 25-13, the team responded in a competitive third set. Charlotte and Davidson were tied, 21-21, in the third frame. Ariyana Johnson and Elena Garcia-Guerrios sparked the 'Cats with kills late in the third. The Wildcats won the third set 25-22.
Melanie Tilles finished the match with six kills on just eight swings.
Kinsey Smith dished out 46 assists and also had 11 digs. This is the second straight match the junior has recorded a double double.
Brooke Briscoe wore the Libero jersey all night and finished with 16 digs. Meile Songaila added 14 digs, which tied a season-high mark.
The Wildcats served up six aces on the night.
Davidson wraps up the "Clash For The Crown" with two wins. Kinsey Smith, Elena Garcia-Guerrios, and Ariyana Johnson landed on the Clash For The Crown's All-Tournament Team. Garcia-Guerrios was named the MVP of the tournament.
