ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Temple closed overtime on an 8-0 run, including a steal and dunk by Quinton Rose with 3.2 seconds left to get by Davidson, 77-75, Saturday in the Hall of Fame Boardwalk Classic at Boardwalk Hall.
Despite the setback, Luke Frampton scored a season-high 24 points on 8-of-9 shooting, including seven of the 'Cats' 13 3-pointers, while Carter Collins, starting in place of the injured Kellan Grady, also had a career night with 16 points.
Tied 66-66 at the end of regulation, Davidson started the extra session with Collins' fourth triple of the game, followed by consecutive layups from Frampton and Luka Brajkovic to go up, 73-66.
The Owls hit three treys in the final 2:23 of the contest, including one from De'Vondre Perry, which sparked their game-winning spurt.
KiShawn Pritchett and Jon Axel Gudmundsson also scored in double figures for the Wildcats with 12 and 10, respectively.
Temple used a pair of 12-2 streaks in the second half to retake the lead, but the 'Cats had an answer and would eventually go back up by three, including 66-63, with 1:12 to go in regulation.
In addition to turning 18 Davidson miscues into 31 points, Temple (8-2) finished with 16 second-chance points.
Sparked by consecutive treys from Frampton and Pritchett, Davidson closed the first half on a 10-3 run to carry a 35-27 lead into the break.
The 'Cats shot 47.4 percent and connected on 13-of-27 from long range, but made just 8-of-12 at the charity stripe. Temple shot 46 percent (29-63), hit 12 3-pointers and went 7-of-13 on free throws.
Like the Wildcats, the Owls placed four in double digits, led by Shizz Alston's 24 points to go along with 11 assists.
