DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite a first-half lead, Davidson field hockey (3-11, 1-4 A-10) dropped its Sunday showdown with conference foe Lock Haven (8-4, 4-2 A-10) 3-2 at Belk Turf Field.
Senior captain Katherine English led the offense, logging a goal and assist. Junior Hannah Fisher recorded the 'Cats other goal, while sophomore Courtney Byler picked up her team-leading seventh assist of the year. Sophomore keeper Bean Rodriguez recorded five saves, with freshman Sarah Zeszotarski picking up three in the second half.
The Bald Eagles took the first lead, scoring at the end of an action-filled sequence from about ten feet out near the left post.
The lead was short lived, as Davidson netted the equalizer just four minutes later. Byler's stick was on the receiving end of a penalty corner and she sent the ball to an awaiting English, who fired the ball to the lower left of the cage.
In the final minute of the first half, the Wildcats found the upper hand, again using a penalty corner to their advantage. After taking the corner, Fisher found her sweet spot in the lower right line, took a redirect from English, and sent the ball straight across.
Lock Haven started an aggressive second half, tying the game off a lob shot to the right back off a corner, and then taking the lead some time later, taking advantage of a nearly all-the-way open cage to net the gamewinner.
Davidson heads out on the road next, traveling North to face Atlantic 10 rival Massachusetts before a Sunday non-conference clash with Colgate.
