DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson field hockey (2-9, 0-3 A-10) continues its homestand this week, welcoming No. 2 North Carolina for a Tuesday 6:00 p.m. tilt at Belk Turf Field. The Tar Heels are the highest ranked opponent for the Wildcats this season.
The 'Cats picked up their second win of the year this past weekend, downing in-state foe Appalachian State in a commanding 4-1 victory. Sophomore Courtney Byler had a career performance, recording three assists and two defensive saves. Byler now ranks first in the league with three defensive saves on the season, and classmate Bean Rodriguez ranks fifth with 48 saves.
Fans can watch both games via the live streaming links provided, and can also follow live stats and the @DCFH Twitter account for in-game updates.
LAST TIME OUT
Davidson nearly upset a red-hot Pacific squad, falling 4-3. A strong second half from seniors Anne Federico, Katherine English, and Becca Jones wasn't enough to overcome three first half goals from the Tigers, who entered the contest on an eight-game win streak and the nation's leader in both scoring and goals per game.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
UNC is coming off a big win over No. 9 Michigan, where a four-goal second half pelted the team to victory. The Heels are 9-2 on the year and 2-1 in the ACC. Their points leader (19), Lauren Moyer, has nine goals and one assist with a .562 shots on-goal percentage. North Carolina runs a two-keeper system, with each girl logging more than 300 minutes. Shannon Johnson has started every game she has appeared in and boasts 10 saves, while Alex Halpin has played in all 11 contests this season and has 16.
UP NEXT
Davidson concludes its five-game home affair with conference foes Lock Haven and Saint Francis on Friday and Sunday, both at Belk Turf Field.
