Senior Trio Leads Davidson Past Saint Louis, 4-2

SAINT LOUIS — Led by outstanding offensive performances from a trio of seniors, Davidson field hockey picked up their second league win of the season, downing Saint Louis 4-2 Friday.
The Wildcats improve to 5-12 overall, while the Billikens slip to 2-11 overall and remain winless in Atlantic 10 action.
Senior Katherine English had a career day, registering three assists in the victory, bringing her season total to eight. She now ranks tied for second all-time for single-season assists behind DCFH great Finley Amato's nine. Classmates Anne Federico and Becca Jones each scored twice, marking the first time for each of them this season to score more than once in a game. Jones led the squad with six shots, four on-goal.
Federico gave the 'Cats the early lead, scoring just six minutes into competition off a corner deflection. A short while later, Jones capitalized on another English helper, sending the ball to the back of the cage and giving Davidson a 2-0 lead.
Saint Louis cut the lead in half, scoring off a one-on-one challenge. The Wildcats were quick to get the goal back, off another Federico-English combination, to go into halftime up 3-1.
Jones collected her second goal of the night in the 63rd minute, connecting off the stick of sophomore Courtney Byler from a penalty corner opportunity. The Billikens trimmed the deficit once again, capitalizing off their own penalty corner just two minutes later. The helper was Byler's team-high 10th of the year.
Davidson returns to competition Sunday, facing former assistant coach Catherine's Ostoich and Missouri State at 11:00 a.m., in Springfield, Mo.
