THE SERIES
The 'Cats and Bulldogs are all tied up at 5-5 all-time. Each team got to the mark in the same fashion, by way of five-game win streaks. Davidson won the first five tilts starting with the first meeting in 2003. Since their first win over Davidson in 2009, Butler has rattled off five straight victories in the series.
HONORARY CAPTAIN
This week's honorary captain is 2005 graduate John Leverett. Leverett, a four-year letter winner, was one of the most prolific running backs in Davidson history. His 3,165 yards remains the most all-time, while he ranks second in single-season yards with 1,084. Leverett boasted 13 games with 100 yards rushing or more and twice broke the 200-yard barrier with matching 259-yard performances against Jacksonville in consecutive seasons.
LAST TIME OUT | Box Score (PDF)
The Wildcats suffered it's worst loss of the season last Saturday, falling at San Diego in PFL road action, 52-3. The league leading Toreros jumped out to a 42-0 lead behind four touchdowns from the eventual PFL Player of the Week, Jonah Hodges. Hodges rattled off four straight touchdowns in the first half off 11 carries for 176 yards. Davidson junior kicker Trevor Smith broke the shutout in the fourth with his fourth field goal of the season, a 35-yard boot through the uprights. Sophomore wide receiver Kahleel Shaw caught three passes for 59 yards, while freshman Keylan Brown rushed 14 times for 59 yards.
#TRENDINGNOW
Senior punter John Cook was busy at San Diego, punting nine times in the game. The Raleigh, N.C., native averaged 37.9 yards-per-punt and pinned the Toreros inside the 20-yard line on three occasions.
NATIONAL ATTENTION
With Stockton McGuire's recognition as a STATS FCS National Freshman of the Week honorable mention, it marks the second 'Cat to earn this distinction in 2016. Running back Keylan Brown made the list for his 95-yard, one touchdown performance at Kentucky Wesleyan back in week two.
