KINGSTON, R.I. – Despite grabbing the early advantage, Davidson suffered a 2-1 setback at Rhode Island in both team's Atlantic 10 men's soccer opener Saturday evening at the URI Soccer Complex.
Maxi Pragnell scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 13th minute off a pass into the box from Hunter Howard to put Davidson (1-8-0, 0-1-0 A-10) up, 1-0.
At the 29:32 mark, Niklas Middrup evened the score with a header off a Stavros Zarokostas corner kick.
Just minutes into the final period, Emil Jesman Sunde and Carlo Davids set up Ryan Bailey with the eventual game-winner.
The Rams (4-6-1, 1-0-0 A-10) finished with a 13-10 edge in shots, while Davidson held a 7-6 advantage on frame, including two each from Pragnell and Christian Fechter.

Davidson will look to extend its unbeaten streak to three straight against in-state foe Duke when the Wildcats travel to Durham for a 7 p.m. kickoff Tuesday evening.

Credit to Rhode Island for coming back and taking their chances well. It was our first game here and the wet, windy conditions combined with each team scrapping for a conference win made the game very competitive. But we need to embrace and manage that urgency better.
It's our third consecutive 2-1 loss and key plays are there for us to seize to earn a victory, or a tie.
It was a good goal as Hunter stepped up and stripped their player in the attacking half then immediately found Maxi who stroked it home.
They had served a couple dangerous corners before the goal happened - but it's disappointing we did not mark and challenge their tallest player, who headed the ball perfectly in the corner.
The guys are sticking with this path and we know that the A-10 games will be battles and up for grabs.
We will recover as fast as possible as the match at Duke is a tasty opportunity.
