Wildcats Edged 2-1 by Elon

DAVIDSON, N.C. – A second-half push wasn't enough to erase a two-goal deficit on Tuesday night, as the Davidson College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Elon at Alumni Stadium.
The defending CAA champion Phoenix (4-2-2) took early control with a pair of first-half tallies. Daire McCarthy put Elon ahead in the fifth minute, driving home a header off a corner kick, before Diego Thompson doubled the advantage late in the opening period.
Davidson (1-2-4) struggled to generate rhythm early, managing just three off-target shots prior to the break.
The Wildcats emerged with renewed energy after halftime and immediately capitalized on an Elon miscue. In the 49th minute, Nico Zeballos intercepted a careless pass inside the penalty area and tapped it home to cut the margin to 2-1.
Davidson pressed over the final 45 minutes, taking 11 shots in search of an equalizer. Phoenix goalkeeper Mikolaj Lenarcik turned away five second-half shots on frame to preserve the victory.
Brady McGlone and Pablo Linzoain led the Wildcat attack with three shots apiece. In net for Davidson, Ben Hanas made three saves in his first collegiate start.
