DAVIDSON, N.C. — Winners of three straight, the Davidson women's soccer team enters Atlantic 10 play seeking to keep the winning going when they open up against the VCU Rams Thursday evening at Alumni Stadium.
The Matchup
Davidson (4-5) gears up for Atlantic 10 play this week, hosting VCU Thursday evening at Alumni Stadium for a 7 p.m. game before going to La Salle Sunday for a 1 p.m.
The All-Time Series/Last Meetings
The Wildcats and the Rams played for the first time last year, with VCU taking a 1-0 decision at home. Davidson will be facing La Salle for the first time in program history.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson is riding a three-game win streak after cruising to a 7-0 home win last Saturday vs. Francis Marion ... the three-game win streak is the longest since 2009 ... the victory was the Wildcats' first at home this year ... senior Vicky Bruce registered a school-record four assists, all coming on corner kicks, in the win Saturday ... she leads the team with eight assists and 12 points ... Bruce ranks first in the A-10 in both assists and shots (45) ... Bruce was named A-10 Player of the Week, Sept. 21 ... Ashley Finke had her second career two-goal game Saturday and is second on the team with three goals and seven points ... defender Dani Johnson has three goals as well ... Davidson has 18 goals as a team, good for third-most in the A-10 ... it also ranks second in shots (149) and third in points (49) and goals (18) ... goalkeeper Kendall Thomas has started four of the past five games, picking up a pair of wins and 18 saves ... Davidson has outshot its opponents in seven of the ning games this year ... the 'Cats recorded a season-high 40 shots vs. Francis Marion ... they are averaging 16.6 shots a game ... head coach Greg Ashton picked up his 181st career win and 110th at Davidson with the win vs. FMU ... he is nine wins away from becoming the program's all-time winningest coach ... the Wildcats enter their second year in the Atlantic 10 ... the 'Cats return 16 letterwinners, including eight starters ... they welcome 11 newcomers to this year's team ... Scouting the Rams
VCU finished its non-conference schedule at 2-6-1 ... it picked up a 6-0 win at home vs. Mount St. Mary's last Sunday ... the Rams are 0-2-1 on the road this year ... pacing the offense is Julia Suarez with three goals and nine points ... Sharon Wojcik is next with two goals and five points ... VCU as a team has scored 11 goals ... goalkeeper Emma Kruse has started all nine games, recording 51 saves and a 1.31 goals against average ... she was named to the A-10 preseason all-conference team after earning 10 shutouts a yeara go ... in last year's meeting, Natalie Robles earned the assist on the game-winning goal ... VCU returns seven starters from last year's team that went 10-5-5 and reached the league tournament's semifinals ... the Rams were picked to finish third in the preseason A-10 poll, the third straight year they were picked in the top three ... head coach Lindsey Martin is in her third year.
Scouting the Explorers
La Salle, which plays at UMass Thursday, has dropped its last two games to Princeton (1-4) and Temple (0-3) to fall to 3-4-2 on the year ... the Explorers have scored eight goals on the season ... Fia Jonsson has a team-best eight points on three goals and two assists ... goalkeeper Katie Getzinger has started all seven of her games, stopping 30 shots and holding a 1.21 goals against average ... La Salle has reached the NCAA Tournament the past four years ... it was picked second in the preseason A-10 poll after going perfect in league play last year (8-0) to win its third regular season title in the past four years ... head coach Paul Royal is the reigning A-10 Coach of the Year.
