DAVIDSON, N.C. – Fresh off a 2-1 win over NC State, Davidson will play its first road game of the 2015 campaign Saturday evening when it travels to Elon for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Unbeaten through three contests for the third straight season, the Wildcats enter 2-0-1. A year ago, Davidson started 5-0-2, which was its best start since beginning the 1982 season 9-0-4.
"Our guys are in very good spirits, they are improving each game, and they have a growth mindset, so we look forward to going on the road for this next opportunity," said head coach Matt Spear.
In Monday's victory over the Wolfpack, the Wildcats got goals from Matt Reinikka and Alec Rotunda.
Rotunda (1G, 1A) and fellow forwards Valeriy Sviderskiy (1G, 1A) and Maxi Pragnell (3A) continue to lead Davidson offensively with three total points each.
Dating back to last season, 29 of the Wildcats' 34 goals have been scored after intermission.
Once Southern Conference rivals, Davidson and Elon have met on the pitch 12 times, with the Phoenix leading the all-time series 9-3-0, including a 3-2 (2ot) win at Alumni Stadium in 2013.
Coming off a pair of weekend tournaments, Elon enters its home opener 4-0-0.
"Elon is also off to a really positive start, winning all four matches away from home. It will be our third straight unbeaten opponent," Spear commented.
"That's great, as we prefer to play talented, winning programs as it makes the experiences more compelling and brings out the best in us."
Caue Da Silva leads the way with three goals and seven total points for the Phoenix, who are averaging 3.0 goals per game, while allowing just two on the season.
"They have quality, experienced attacking players so our defending will need to be on point and cohesive."
