ELON, N.C. – Jaiden Fortune scored a goal in each half to lead Elon to a 4-0 victory over Davidson in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday evening at Rudd Field.
The loss was the first of the season for the Wildcats as they fall to 2-1-1, while the Phoenix remain undefeated improving to 5-0-0.
"We lost to a very good Elon team tonight," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. "They are one of probably only 5-6 teams out of 200 that have started the season 5-0. They have talent, experience and fight."
"We started out well, handling their pressure, connecting passes, getting some shots and earning three corner kicks."
Less than four minutes after Fortune put the Phoenix up 1-0, Nathan Diehl extended their lead with a header just prior to the half.
"The game changed at the end of the first half. They capitalized on a mistake for the first goal, and they followed it with a quick second. Needing a positive start to the second half, we conceded another and the climb back in to the game became too steep," Spear said.
In the 51st minute, Fortune scored his second of the match and third on the young season off assists from James Brace and Myles Mansfield.
Elijah Agu added an insurance goal in the final minutes for Elon with a strike from the top of the box.

Davidson returns home for a 7 p.m. contest with in-state foe High Point on Tuesday evening at Alumni Stadium.
"We were going to lose at some point, so the key now is to learn from it so we are better prepared to handle future challenges. We also need to move on and get refreshed mentally and physically to prepare for the next match. A win at home vs. High Point is the best prescription."
