Morris Sets All-Time Mark in 31-10 Setback to Marist

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite William Morris becoming Davidson's all-time leader in receiving yards, the Wildcats suffered a 31-10 setback to Marist in Pioneer Football League action Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.
Davidson (1-6, 0-4 PFL) jumped out to a 10-0 lead with a Trevor Smith 29-yard field goal and 92-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Mitchell to Morris.
The reception quickly gave Morris 100 yards on the day and 2,823 for his career, which surpassed Lanny Funsten's record (2,770), set in 2012. In addition, Morris' touchdown reception was the second longest in school history.
In the second quarter, Marist (3-4, 2-2 PFL) scored on an eight-yard touchdown pass and 33-yard field goal, respectively, to tie the score, 10-10, at the half.
Back-to-back Davidson turnovers, which led to Marist touchdowns on consecutive offensive plays in the third quarter, solidified the contest for the Red Foxes.
Juston Christian led Marist with 11 receptions for 157 yards and a touchdown, while Mike White passed for 271 yards on 24-of-45 attempts and one interception.
Davidson's defense finished with six sacks and nine tackles for a loss. Jaylen Mize led the team with seven solo tackles.
The Wildcats will be back in action when they host Campbell next Saturday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m.
