'Cats Welcome Gardner-Webb and American to Belk Arena

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team will return to John M. Belk Arena Sunday for two duals. The Wildcats will open up with Southern Conference foe Gardner-Webb at 1 p.m., before taking on EIWA rival American at 4 p.m.

Match 2: Gardner-Webb vs. American – 2:30 p.m.
Match 3: Davidson vs. American – 4 p.m.

Headlock on Hunger
The Davidson wrestling team will be supporting Headlock on Hunger, an initiative that aims to help provide food for children who are dealing with hunger at home. The team will be collecting canned food at all home matches. At the end of the season, the food collected will be brought to the Southern Conference Championship.Â

Davidson enters the tri-meet 4-10 overall. Senior captain Ian Solcz leads the team with a 12-10 mark at 197-pounds, while classmate Kevin Birmingham leads the team with eight pins. Anthony Elias owns a 6-7 mark at 133 lbs., while Scott Patrick is 5-3 at 184 lbs.

Senior Scott Patrick battled to a 3-2 decision at 184 pounds to earn Davidson's lone victory in a 36-3 loss against first-place Chattanooga at Maclellan Gym in Chattanooga at Friday. Patrick scored an early takedown in the first period and an escape at the start of the third frame to earn a hard fought 3-2 decision over John Shrader.

The Wildcats opened Southern Conference with two hard-fought losses to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Virginia Military Institute. Scott Patrick, Alex Palinski and Anthony Elias earned victories in both duals, while James McCord and Ian Solcz earned 1-1 marks on the night.

Sunday's match will mark the 24th dual meet between Davidson and Gardner-Webb. The Wildcats trail the all-time series, 2-21-1 and is looking to snap a 13-match losing streak the Runnin' Bulldogs. Sunday's match will also mark just the second dual meet between Davidson and American. The Wildcats lead the all-time series, 1-0, after winning the first dual in 2003-04.
