SALEM, Va. – Coming off a sensational 2025-26 campaign, Davidson's Anderson Heap picked up right where he left off finishing runner-up at the 2026 Southeast Open hosted by Virginia Tech Sunday inside the Cregger Center.
A 2026 SoCon Champion and NCAA qualifier, Heap quickly punched his ticket to the finals with wins over Jack Myers (Virginia, Dec. 6-0), Jackson Young (Maryland, Dec. 10-9), Nathanial Askew (North Carolina, SV 6-3) and Jeremiah Price (Appalachian State, MD 11-2).
In his fifth match of the day, the nationally-ranked Heap fell to Chattanooga's Hunter Mason.
At 157 pounds, senior Tyler-Xavier McKnight bounced back from a Round of 16 setback with four straight victories, including a 2-0 decision over Taylor Smith to take fifth place.
Bryce Griffin, who was also nationally-ranked in the preseason polls, reached the semifinals of 165 pounds with victories over Sasha Gavronsky (West Virginia, Dec. 14-7) and Max Hernes (Ohio, Dec. 10-3).
After an 8-2 setback to Virginia Tech's in the semifinals, Griffin held off Tavian Camper of Chattanooga, 10-6, to take home third place.
Making their collegiate debuts, first-year wrestlers Cody Trevino and Marco Loss came home second and fourth in the freshman-sophomore brackets at 141 and 133 pounds, respectively.
Trevino needed just 2:03 to pin Trajan Pannell before three straight decisions to set up a finals matchup with West Virginia's Luke Satriano, which he dropped 8-2.
