JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  — North Florida's Lanie Keating knocked in a free kick in the second extra period to send Davidson to a 2-1 double-overtime defeat on the road Sunday afternoon at Hodges Stadium in women's soccer.

The two teams were playing each other for just the second time after they both played to a scoreless draw at Alumni Stadium in 2012.

After neither team was able to connect in the first overtime, North Florida got the winning goal at the 101:16 mark. The Ospreys (2-9) drew a foul about 30 yards out in the Wildcats' territory. Keating lined up and kicked the ball, sending it top shelf just over the outstretched arms of keeper Rachel Locke for the game-winner.

Davidson (3-7-1) had come back to tie things up late in the second half on Stephanie Piperno's second goal of the season. She got a pass from Lauren Grace Himes and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, dribbling past her and firing a shot to the middle of the net for the tying goal. It was Himes first collegiate point.

Both teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half. UNF then opened the scoring up in the 68th minute when Hanna Parado scored her first goal of the season off assists from Amanda Fischler and Sarah Wasser.

North Florida had a 13-12 edge on shots, with Davidson putting four of its 12 shots on goal. Two of those shots came in a 30-second span in the first overtime as Becca Fisher took them both, only to see both shots saved on each attempt. The 'Cats also had a corner kick with under a minute to go, but were unable to capitalize.

Locke finished with three saves, while the Ospreys' Megan Dorsey had two.

Davidson now gears up for its first pair of Atlantic 10 games when they open the month of October by playing at St. Bonaventure and Duquesne next weekend, Oct. 3-5.
