CHARLESTON, S.C. – A three-run eighth inning led No. 6 seed Wofford past No. 2 seed Davidson, 10-7, eliminating the Wildcats from the 2014 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament Friday night in Riley Park.

The loss concludes the winningest season in Davidson baseball history at 29-19. The Wildcats earned their program-record 29th win of the season on the first day of the tournament, and finish with their highest winning percentage (.604) in a season since 1958 (.639, 11-6), and its highest ever in which it played more than 42 games (1987, .595, 25-17).

Davidson did not trail Wofford (31-28) until the eighth. The Wildcats scored five runs in the first inning before the Terriers rallied with four runs in the third and another in the fourth to tie the game. Davidson added a run each in the fourth and seventh innings for a 7-5 lead, but Wofford went ahead with a three-run eighth, and added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth for the final margin.

For Wofford, designated hitter Alec Paradowski went 5-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI-walk to tie the game, while left fielder James Plaisted drove in four runs, including the game-winning run, going 1-for-4 (2B, SF).

The Wildcats pounded out 16 hits to Wofford's 14, but stranded 14 base runners and struck out 19 times, as Terrier reliever RHP Eric Eck (3-3) racked up seven in three innings in earning the win, yielding just one run on two hits and a walk.

First baseman David Daniels (3-for-5, BB, RBI) and left fielder Lee Miller (3-for-6) led the 'Cats' offense with three-hit games, while right fielder Nathan Becker's (2-for-5) two RBIs led six who drove in a run for the Wildcats.

Davidson brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but RHP Will Stillman was able to earn his fourth save of the season.

In the decisive eighth, left fielder Demetrius Jennings (2-for-4, BB, RBI) drove in the first run of the frame with a single up the middle with the bases loaded. Paradowski then walked to tie it, and with one out, Plaisted's sac fly gave Wofford an 8-7 lead.

Davidson had jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, sending 10 batters to the plate. Centerfielder Forrest Brandt (2-for-5) and Becker hit RBI-singles with the bases loaded before shortstop Sam Foy (1-for-3, BB) made the first out with a sacrifice fly. Third baseman Ben Arkin (1-for-5) drove in another run with a single just over the second baseman, and catcher Daniel Gerow (2-for-4) capped the scoring with an RBI-double.

Wofford rallied back though, loading the bases to start the fourth. Plaisted cleared them with a double to the left gap. He then advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by right fielder Josh Hyman (1-for-4, BB).

Second baseman Seth Neely (1-for-4) tied the game in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly, but the 'Cats went back ahead in the bottom half on a single up the middle by Becker.

The Terriers appeared poised to go ahead in the top of the seventh after getting two runners in scoring position with no outs, but head coach Dick Cooke turned to RHP Cody White, who was able to get a strikeout for the first out and then induce a pop out double play after an intentional walk to end the inning. Second baseman Andrew Pope caught the pop up going away from home plate towards foul territory, and was able to throw home to tag out the tagging runner.

An RBI-single to right by Daniels in the bottom of the seventh gave Davidson a two-run cushion, but it was not enough.

RHP Michael Goldberg (3-4) was tagged with the loss.

It was Davidson's final Southern Conference Tournament in baseball, as the Wildcats will join the Atlantic 10 Conference next season.
