BOONE, N.C. – In addition to four players in double figures, Davidson shot above 50 percent for the second straight contest as the Wildcats cruised past Appalachian State, 79-56, in Southern Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Center.
Jake Cohen led Davidson (13-7, 8-1 SoCon) with 17 points and blocked two shots, while De'Mon Brooks posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Tyler Kalinoski added 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, sinking 3-of-4 3-point attempts. Chris Czerapowicz also hit three 3-pointers, and finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Davidson was just as strong defensively, holding Appalachian State (8-11, 4-4 SoCon) to 30.2 percent from the field for the game.
Tevin Baskin led the Mountaineers with 18 points, scoring 12 at the free throw line, and Nathan Healy added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Davidson, which shot a blistering 61.5 percent in the first half, raced out to a 19-7 advantage and stretched its lead to as many as 24, before going to the break up, 45-23.
Both Brooks and Czerapowicz scored 10 points in the opening period for the Wildcats, who held Appalachian State to just six field goals and 21.4 percent in the first 20 minutes.
Kalinoski's third 3-pointer of the contest gave the Wildcats their largest lead of the game, 69-39, with just over nine minutes to play.
Davidson finished shooting 51.9 percent, and had 15 assists on 27 baskets, led by seven from Tom Droney.
The 'Cats held a 41-29 rebounding advantage.
Davidson returns home Thursday for a 7 p.m. contest against Samford.
