DAVIDSON, N.C. – De'Mon Brooks led four Davidson players in double figures with 17 points as the Wildcats defeated SoCon rival College of Charleston, 77-68, in men's basketball action Saturday evening at Belk Arena.

The backcourt duo of Nik Cochran and JP Kuhlman contributed 15 points each for Davidson (11-7, 6-1 SoCon), while Tom Droney enjoyed his best game of the season with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting, six rebounds and three assists.

Like the Wildcats, College of Charleston (12-7, 4-3 SoCon) had four double-figure scorers, led by Andrew Lawrence who scored 18 points on 6-of-17 shooting and paced the Cougars with five rebounds and four assists. Adjehi Baru and Anthony Thomas both had 13 points and Trent Wiedeman added 10 points off the bench.

The first 20 minutes of action featured six ties and seven lead changes before Davidson broke a 29-29 deadlock with 10 straight points, highlighted by three layups from Droney, who had 10 points in the frame. Cochran also added double-digits prior to intermission with 13 as the Wildcats went to the break up, 44-34.

Along with the nation's top free-throw shooting team going 14-of-16 from the line in the first half, Davidson held a 24-12 advantage on the glass, including eight offensive boards, which led to 14 second-chance points in the period.

The Wildcats finished the game shooting 48.1 percent to College of Charleston's 45.8 percent, and held a 37-28 advantage on the glass, led by eight boards by Jake Cohen. Cohen also had nine points and two blocks.

After Davidson took its largest lead of the contest, 48-34, early in the second half, the Cougars slowly chipped away and cut the deficit to five, 64-59, on a Matt Sundberg trey with 6:12 to play. College of Charleston wouldn't get any closer as Kuhlman put the game out of reach with a 3-pointer of his own to stretch the Wildcats lead back to double figures with 1:40 left.

For the game, the Wildcats went 21-of-24 (.875) at the stripe.

Davidson returns to the hardwood Thursday evening with a 7 p.m. contest at Western Carolina.
