FARMVILLE, Va. – Freshman forward Lucy Pidcock scored for the fourth time this season as the Davidson field hockey team fell 3-1 to regular season champion Liberty in the 2012 NorPac Tournament Semifinals on Friday afternoon at the Athletic Complex at Longwood University.

All of the Wildcats' goals thus far have been scored by freshmen, as fellow rookie Anna Davis struck twice yesterday to lead the 'Cats past UC Davis by a score of 2-1.

Finley Amato once again led the offensive effort, recording five shots in the game. Brooke Osborne, Tyler McFayden and Pidcock notched a shot apiece. Defensively, Sarah Fisher had five saves while Madison Parrish picked up her third defensive save of the season. The 'Cats out-cornered the Flames 6-4 in the contest.

The Flames, led by Natalie Barr's nine shots, outshot the Wildcats 18-8. Goalkeeper Mallory Cuccio had one save in the game to help advance the Flames to tomorrow's championship match vs. the winner of the California/Stanford game.

A pair of shots by Amato went wide, while Fisher came up with a stop on Abbey Basom down the other end. However, Basom would be awarded a penalty stroke soon after and successfully converted to put the Flames on the board first with 17 minutes to play in the first half.

The Wildcats countered with a strike of their own just three minutes later. Amato had a shot blocked after a penalty corner, and Annie Evans picked up the loose ball and fed it to Pidcock. Pidcock was able to put it through a scramble in front of the net and in for the score to tie the game at 1-1 with 10 minutes to go in the first.

Liberty took a 2-1 lead early in the second half, with Ashley Krulock scoring on a pass from Barr four minutes into the action.  The Flames fired off four more shots in a two-minute span, but could not hit the back of the cage. McFayden had a shot blocked, while Cuccio came up with the save on Amato as Liberty kept the one-goal lead.

Barr scored off a penalty corner with eight minutes left to give the Flames the 3-1 lead. Fisher made a stop on Helen Doolittle, but Barr would scoop up the rebound and put it in for the insurance goal as Liberty took the 3-1 win to advance to the finals.

Davidson will face the loser of the California/Stanford contest tomorrow in the third-place game. The match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
