Davidson Field Hockey Suffers First NorPac Defeat at Radford

RADFORD, Va. – Radford erased a two-goal first-half deficit and scored twice in the second half to earn a 5-3 win over Davidson in NorPac East field hockey action Friday night at RU Field Hockey Field.
Marlee Schramm scored the game-winning goal for Radford (7-7, 2-2 NorPac East) in the 43rd minute, with Lynsey Daughtrey earning the assist, to break a 3-3 tie. The Highlanders' defense kept Davidson's offense quiet in the second half, and Melissa Register added an insurance goal in the 48th minute. Register deflected a cross from Madonna Wadolowski high into the cage on the goal for the final 5-3 margin.
Juniors Annie Evans and Finley Amato and senior Meg Jarrell# scored for Davidson (7-6, 2-1 NorPac East). Junior goalkeeper Sarah Fisher made a season-high and career-high matching 11 saves on 26 shots.
The 'Cats got on the scoreboard first as junior Annie Evans scored with senior Christine Rua earning the assist.
Daughtrey evened the game at 1-1 with a goal assisted by Coutney Poole, but Amato scored in the 18th minute to put Davidson back on top. Senior Meg Jarrell then gave Davidson a 3-1 advantage in the 22nd minute after she flipped the ball high into the cage for a goal.
Radford cut into the margin 34 seconds later with an unassisted goal from Poole. Schramm scored her first of two goals in the game just before halftime in the 33rd minute on a direct corner, with Daughtrey earning the assist. The Highlanders then added two more goals in the second half for the win.
Sidney Encarncion made four saves after facing 13 Davidson shots. Senior defender Hannah Lawrence made a defensive save for Davidson in the ninth minute.
Davidson returns to Belk Turf Field Sunday after four road matches to take on Liberty at 1 p.m.
