DAVIDSON, N.C. – Nik Cochran scored a career-high 22 points, and Davidson held Furman without a field goal for 10:20 in the second half to post a 79-70 Southern Conference men's basketball victory over the Paladins Wednesday night in Belk Arena.

Cochran made all three of his field goal attempts, which all came from behind the 3-point line, and netted 13-of-15 from the free-throw line. JP Kuhlman added 14 points for the Wildcats (8-8, 2-3 SoCon), and De'Mon Brooks recorded 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Jordan Miller led the Paladins (11-5, 3-2 SoCon) with 21 points, and Colin Reddick scored 13 points, with nine coming from the charity stripe. Noah States added 10 points.

The teams combined for 51 fouls and shot 71 free throws, making 55. Davidson shot 76 percent from the line, and Furman made 79 percent. The Wildcat bench exploded for 40 points as a few starters sat most of the first frame in foul trouble.

After a layup by Amu Saaka that made the score 53-52 in favor of the 'Cats with 11:47 left, Davidson held the Paladins without a field goal until Miller hit a triple with 1:27 to play. The Wildcats opened that stretch with an 11-2 run, capped by a Cochran 3-pointer from the corner, that made the margin 64-54 with 8:33 remaining.

After Furman trimmed the lead to 66-60 on a pair of Brandon Sebirumbi free throws, Clint Mann answered with a driving layup, and Tom Droney tallied a conventional 3-point play to push the lead back to 11 with 1:47 to go. Davidson went 8-for-10 from the line the rest of the way to seal the win.

The Paladins used an 11-4 spurt, capped by a pair of Sebirumbi free throws, to open a 28-19 cushion in the first half. Davidson responded by capping the half on an 18-4 run to take a 39-35 edge at the break. Cochran scored seven points during the stretch, and Brooks added six.

The Wildcats meet defending SoCon champion Wofford at 7 p.m. in Belk Arena Saturday night.
