GREENSBORO, N.C. -- UNC Greensboro's Colby Hyatt allowed just a solo home run to freshman shortstop Michael Zeblo, pitching the Spartans to a complete-game, 7-1 win over the Davidson Wildcats Wednesday night in SoCon action at UNCG Baseball Stadium.

Hyatt (3-2) scattered five hits, two in the ninth, for one run over nine innings to lead UNC Greensboro (14-15, 2-9 SoCon) to the series victory in the second game of the broken-up series. Greensboro defeated Davidson (13-16, 4-10 SoCon), 6-5, in the first game on March 30. Hyatt held the Wildcats hitless until the fifth inning, when freshman third baseman Andrew Barna (1-for-4) and junior designated hitter Will General (2-for-4) got two straight singles to start the inning. Davidson stranded the pair and would not get on the scoreboard until Zeblo's (1-for-3, RBI) leadoff home run in the sixth, the Wildcats' only scoring of the night.

Greensboro took a 4-0 lead on junior right-hander Ian Horkley (2-3), who was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits in three innings, and scored three more in the sixth inning off the Wildcat bullpen for the 7-1 win.

UNC Greensboro got across a run in the first as Horkley got into a jam after hitting leadoff man Harry Slade. Right fielder Chris Barker tried to sacrifice him over a base, but senior catcher Tommy Piacenza's throw went wide into the Spartan bullpen. With the play called dead, runners were held at second and third, before Barna fielded a pop up from center fielder Corey Overholtzer in foul territory for the first out. Second baseman Ray Quinones singled into right field to score Slade, but junior right fielder Sam Payne's (1-for-3) throw forced the runners to hold. Horkley walked first baseman Lloyd Enzor to load the bases but got a pair of back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning and leave the bases juiced.

The Spartans added a run in the second on three hits to take a 2-0 lead. Shortstop Eric Brindle started the inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by third baseman Kris Richards. Zeblo made a diving play on a ball from Slade and cut down Brindle at third, and junior first baseman Danny Weiss (1-for-4) almost robbed a base-hit from Barker that moved Slade to second for Overholtzer, who singled into center field. Sophomore center fielder Drew Gadaire's throw to Weiss caught him off the bag for the third out of the inning, but not before Slade scored the Spartans' second run.

Greensboro extended its lead to 4-0 in the third on Brindle's two-out, two-RBI triple down the right field line, as Enzor (single) and Leach (hit by pitch) both scored on the play.

The Wildcats got their first base runner in the fourth as Payne took a one-out walk, but Weiss grounded into a double play in the next at-bat to end the inning. Davidson got another chance in the fifth inning when Barna and General got back-to-back singles to lead off the inning and bumped over a base as right fielder Chris Barker chased down a foul ball from sophomore left fielder Calvin Sigelbaum and leapt at the Spartan bullpen wall for the first out. Hyatt struck out Piacenza and got Zeblo to ground out to end the inning.

Davidson got on the board in the sixth on Zeblo's leadoff home run to right field, his fourth of the season, but Greensboro added three in the bottom on three hits and a pair of walks. Senior right-hander Thomas Middour came out of the bullpen to start the inning and got a fly out before walking Barker and allowing a base hit to Overholtzer. Quinones flied out for the second out, and Jayjack took a walk to load the bases and bring on junior submariner Mike Frongello, who gave up two straight base hits for three runs to Enzor (two-RBI single) and Leach (RBI-single) before getting a fielder's choice from Brindle for the third out.

The Wildcats would not get another runner until the top of the ninth as Payne led off with a single into left for the team's fifth hit. General got his second hit of the night, a two-out single through the left side, to extend the game, but Hyatt got Sigelbaum to fly out to finish the game.

On the road for 10 of the next 12 games, Davidson will travel to Appalachian State for the first of two straight SoCon road series, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. The teams will play the second game Saturday at 3 p.m. and conclude with a 1 p.m. game Sunday.
